I've Discovered Spoonflower!
I may be on to something. I heard about a book that was highly recommended on the topic of digital textile design and zoomed off to Amazon to order it. I was so inspired by Project Runway and the digital textiles of the designers that I had to explore the concept. The book arrived late this afternoon, I was understandably excited at the prospect of a good night of reading. It is called "Digital Textile Design" and is authored by Melanie Bowles and Ceri Isaac. But before I got to the book itself, I made what was to me an exciting discovery. I found Spoonflower on the internet. Spoonflower is a company that puts your images onto fabric for you. Yes, your images onto fabric, creating custom fabrics as small as a fat quarter or as large as you want. I immediately set out to design my own fabric out of my own photos (remember that's the best way to avoid what I call "copyright complications". No lawsuits, no cease and desist letters, no threats, just using your own photos that you yourself have taken for your own personal pleasure. I'm so thrilled. I ordered my first yard to see what I think of both the process and the product. It's my Easter present to me. I'm sharing my photo with you in hopes that you too will play with these new opportunities. Www.spoonflower.com has full details so that you can print your own designs from your own art.
